LSG vs KKR: What Happened when Lucknow and Kolkata Played in IPL 2023?

Lucknow Super Giants are set to play a crucial IPL 2024 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday (May 5) at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Both teams are in close proximity as only two points separate them. KKR are placed 2nd with 14 points while LSG are 3rd with 12 points, both having played 10 matches so far this season.

Earlier this season, KKR and LSG played out at the Eden Gardens and the Knight Riders registered a comfortable victory, which was also their first one over the Lucknow franchise in IPL.

Mitchell Starc took three wickets as LSG only managed 161 runs after batting first. KKR chased the score down with more than 4 overs to spare and won the match by eight wickets. Phil Salt was the star of the chase with an unbeaten 89 runs off just 47 balls.

Previously, KKR and LSG had played three matches and the Lucknow team won all of them.

In IPL 2023, these two teams played their respective final group stage match in Kolkata. Lucknow scored 176 runs as Nicholas Pooran scored 58 runs off 30 balls. Quinton de Kock (28 off 27), Ayush Badoni (25 off 21) also played their part with the bat.

In the run chase, KKR had a superb start through Jason Roy and Venkatesh Iyer. After a 61 run partnership, Iyer fell and that led to three quick wickets. Jason Roy departed for 45 and then Andre Russell was also cleaned up by Ravi Bishnoi as KKR were in deep trouble. Rinku Singh played a valiant knock of an unbeaten 67 in just 33 balls, but KKR fell short by just a solitary run and bowed out of the tournament with a defeat.
