LSG vs MI, IPL 2023 Eliminator: Rohit Sharma's poor form in Playoffs continues

Mumbai Indians are up against Lucknow Super Giants in a crucial IPL 2023 encounter at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday (May 24).

They have roared back this season after an underwhelming last season, finishing at the root of the table. Rohit Sharma has captained them to all five IPL triumphs thus far, and is the most successful captain in the tournament's history.

But the MI captain has struggled in all of the IPL knockout matches. Since his Deccan Chargers days, Rohit had played 19 knockout matches of IPL, scoring just 297 runs in the process. And it continued on Wednesday as well.

The India and MI captain got dismissed for just 11 runs. Sharma made a good start, hitting one four and a six, but struggled to capitalize on the start and succumbed soon to Naveen-ul-Haq's bowling.

His grim statistics in IPL playoffs continue as now the MI skipper has 308 runs in 20 matches after today. An average of 15.4 and a strike rate of 106 never epitomize the batting maestro of India, but he will have to find a way to get out of his poor run in knockout matches.

Rohit Sharma 1st IPL Playoff Match in 2009

Rohit played his first IPL knockout match in 2009 during his Deccan Chargers days. He scored 5 runs in the semi-final against Delhi Daredevils, and then scored a crucial 24 in the final against RCB as Deccan Chargers won the trophy that year.

But the MI captain has a terrific win record in IPL playoffs. He has won 10 out of 13 matches that he has captained in the IPL playoffs, with an winning percentage of 77.
