LSG vs MI, IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant gets High Praises from Sunil Gavaskar On-Air, Reason Revealed

By MyKhel Staff

Rishabh Pant has been having a torrid time in the last few months, since the turn of the 2025 calendar year, to be precise.

Pant lost his place in the Indian limited-overs team and sat out the entire Champions Trophy. In the IPL 2025, he has struggled for his new franchise as well.

Rishabh Pant gets High Praises from Sunil Gavaskar On-Air Reason Revealed

Pant was bought for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction by Lucknow Super Giants, but the southpaw has found things tough with the bat. Even on the match on Friday (April 4) against Mumbai Indians, Pant's struggle continued as he could only manage 2 runs.

At the moment, the LSG skipper has amassed only 19 runs after four matches, with a paltry average of just 4.75.

Amid the batting crisis, Rishabh Pant has garnered one critic beside him in the ongoing match between LSG and MI. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was in all praise for Rishabh Pant during the match.

Gavaskar has not been that kind to Pant in recent times, as the India legend ripped the southpaw apart recently in a Border-Gavaskar Trophy match. After a rash shot led to Pant's dismissal, Gavaskar went in a vehement rant against the player and called him 'Stupid' several times. The legendary player slammed him for irresponsible shot-making, and incidentally, Pant has since been out of the Indian team's playing XI.

But in the IPL 2025 match, Gavaskar showered accolades on Pant's captaincy. During the 3rd over of the match, Shardul Thakur sent back Ryan Rickelton. The South African pulled a short delivery which fell straight into the laps of Ravi Bishnoi. Gavaskar hailed Pant's field-placing on-air and praised his captaincy skills.

"We don't often talk about good field placing, but that was super field placing by the captain Rishabh Pant. The fielder didn't have to move this way or that way, not an inch. Very good placement, Very good captaincy by Rishabh Pant. He might not be scoring runs but he is worth his weight in gold with this captaincy," Gavaskar said.

In the match, LSG posted 203 for 8 in their full quota of overs. In the run chase, MI lost wickets early but Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir stitched a fantastic partnership to bring them back in the contest. At the end of 10 overs, the Paltans are 101 for 3 with Suryakumar at the crease along with Tilak Varma.
