Mumbai Indians are set to lock horns against the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025 Today (Friday, April 4) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
After a rocky start to the IPL 2025 campaign, the Paltans secured their first victory of the season in the last match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite the first win, Rohit Sharma's form remains a question.

Rohit Sharma is an IPL legend - a five-time champion captain and one of Mumbai Indians' most iconic players. However, the start of the 2025 season has been uncharacteristically rough for the "Hitman." His batting returns have been minimal, raising questions about his form, fitness, and role in the team. With Mumbai Indians off to a mixed start this year, fans and pundits are debating whether Rohit's current performances justify his spot in the playing XI.
Rohit Sharma's batting numbers make for grim reading so far this season. In three matches, he has scored a total of just 21 runs off 20 balls. His individual scores - 0 vs CSK, 8 vs GT, and 13 vs KKR - underline the poor start. For a player of Rohit's caliber, these are startlingly low returns.
This slow start hasn't come completely out of the blue. Rohit's IPL form has been patchy for a few seasons now. In IPL 2024 he scored 417 runs in 14 matches - a respectable tally - but that season was propped up by two big innings (an unbeaten 105 and a 68) that masked a string of low scores in between. In fact, aside from those two knocks, most of his innings last year were under 20 runs. Going back further, Rohit hadn't crossed 400 runs in any IPL season from 2018 through 2023. His totals in 2022 and 2023 were 268 and 332 runs respectively, with middling strike rates around the 120-130 mark.
Rohit Sharma was reduced to Impact Player role in the last match and the veteran is likely to remain in the same role in this match as well. The India captain has found it tough to score runs so far and will have to find the runs. MI have a few players in their ranks and Rohit's continued off-form may lead to his expulsion from the side.
It will be a huge call though to drop someone such as Rohit Sharma from the MI side, but it may come to that if the former Mumbai skipper continues to flop with the bat.
