Maharashtra beat Baroda by one wicket in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Vadodara, Feb 16 (PTI) Opener Rohit Motwani top-scoredwith a 80-ball 65 to help Maharashtra eke out a brilliantone-wicket victory over Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy heretoday.

Chasing 253 to win, openers Motwani and HH Khadiwale (30)forged a 72-run partnership in 13 overs to lay the foundationfor the runchase, while NS Paradkar (34), GB Gaikwad (21) andSS Mundhe (36) provided the late charge as Maharashtra scored254/9 with four balls to spare.

Gagandeep Singh scalped four wickets, while AA Waghmodeaccounted for two and Swapnil Singh and K Panchal took onewicket each to try to derail the chase but it was not enoughin the end.

Earlier, electing to bat, KH Devdhar (63) and RK Solanki(68) compiled 96 runs for the second wicket before the formerwas run out by Gaikwad in the 26th over.

Down the order, skipper Pinal Shah (37) and Waghmode (24)also shone with the bat as Baroda posted a challenging 252 intheir stipulated 50 overs at Reliance Stadium here.
