Manav Suthar Test Debut: How Red-Ball Practice During IPL Led To Dream Start Against Afghanistan
India's search for new Test stars may have found another gem. Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar spectacularly announced himself on his Test debut against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, finishing with stunning figures of 6/33. For the 23-year-old, it was the perfect beginning to a journey he had dreamed about since childhood.
What makes the story even more impressive is the preparation behind it. While many players were fully focused on the IPL, Suthar was already thinking ahead. He was quietly working with the red ball, preparing himself for a possible Test opportunity. That dedication paid off in the best possible way as he delivered a match-winning performance on the biggest stage of his career.

Dream Comes True For Manav Suthar
Speaking on JioStar's Cricket Live, Suthar revealed the emotions he felt after learning that he would make his Test debut.
"Gautam sir and the skipper informed me that I would be making my debut. It was a very proud moment because, ever since I started playing, it had been my dream, my father's dream, and everyone's dream for me to play Test cricket for India."
The young spinner also described Test cricket as "the pinnacle of the sport" and said playing for India in the longest format had always been his ultimate goal.
Smart Bowling & Perfect Execution In New Chandigarh
Suthar quickly noticed that the pitch was offering assistance to spin bowlers. According to the JioStar interview, he observed deliveries turning and occasionally holding up on the surface.
Instead of chasing wickets, he focused on accuracy and consistency. He explained that he relied heavily on his stock ball and concentrated on bowling in the right areas. His disciplined approach produced immediate results, including what he called his favourite wicket - the very first wicket of his Test career.
Red-Ball Preparation During IPL Made The Difference
One of the most interesting revelations from Suthar's interview was how he prepared for the possibility of a Test call-up while still involved in the IPL.
"When my name came up in the team, I was practising with the red ball during the IPL as well, thinking about how I would approach things if given the opportunity."
After joining the Test squad, he added several long practice sessions to sharpen his skills. The result was a memorable debut that showcased both preparation and patience. Manav Suthar's dream debut proved that opportunity favours those who prepare long before the spotlight arrives.
