Manav Suthar Test Debut: How Red-Ball Practice During IPL Led To Dream Start Against Afghanistan

Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar spectacularly announced himself on his Test debut against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, finishing with stunning figures of 6/33. "Gautam sir and the skipper informed me that I would be making my debut. It was a very proud moment because, ever since I started playing, it had been my dream, my father's dream, and everyone's dream for me to play Test cricket for India."

The young spinner also described Test cricket as "the pinnacle of the sport" and said playing for India in the longest format had always been his ultimate goal.

Suthar quickly noticed that the pitch was offering assistance to spin bowlers. According to the JioStar interview, he observed deliveries turning and occasionally holding up on the surface.

Instead of chasing wickets, he focused on accuracy and consistency. He explained that he relied heavily on his stock ball and concentrated on bowling in the right areas. His disciplined approach produced immediate results, including what he called his favourite wicket - the very first wicket of his Test career.

One of the most interesting revelations from Suthar's interview was how he prepared for the possibility of a Test call-up while still involved in the IPL.

"When my name came up in the team, I was practising with the red ball during the IPL as well, thinking about how I would approach things if given the opportunity."
