Hamilton (New Zealand), Jan 17: New Zealand openers Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson set a new world record in Twenty20 International cricket, against Pakistan here today (January 17).
Guptill (87 not out) and Williamson (72 not out) had an unbroken partnership of 171 runs for the 1st wicket as New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the 2nd T20I of the 3-match series. The rubber is level at 1-1.
The partnership of 171 on Sunday is the highest for any wicket in the history of T20Is. The previous best was 170, also for the opening wicket in 2009, between Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman of South Africa.
Pakistan, opting to bat first, scored 168/7 in 20 overs. In reply, the hosts completed the run chase in 17.4 overs without losing a wicket. The Man-of-the-match was shared by both record-breakers Guptill and Williamson.
