Massive unrest, 'broken hearts' in Mumbai Indians camp after Hardik Pandya replace Rohit Sharma as captain

Mumbai Indians replacing Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya hasn't gone down well with the fans. Supporters of the hugely popular franchise burnt the Mumbai Indians jersey in protest, and the Instagram following of the five-time champions also came down by four million after the big move on Friday, December 15.

The unrest hasn't been limited just to the fans. Chances of Mumbai Indians (MI) players getting divided into two camps have also increased ahead of the IPL 2024.

Hardik Pandya's shock trading from Gujarat Titans (GT) to Mumbai Indians (MI) already shocked many. Pandya moved to GT to fulfil his captaincy ambitions ahead of the IPL 2022. He won the title in his very first attempt there and led the team in the IPL 2023 final as well.

Hardik Pandya's partnership with Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra was widely appreciated by experts and former cricketers. Therefore, Hardik Pandya came in as a massive development. His arrival immediately raised the eyebrows of Rohit Sharma fans who smelled winds of change in the Mumbai Indians leadership setup.

Jasprit Bumrah was the first one to roll out a cryptic Instagram Story. His post read, “Silence is sometimes the best answer.” The star pacer was reportedly eager to take the Mumbai Indians (MI) captaincy and wasn't happy with MI's decision to bring back Hardik Pandya.

Now Suryakumar Yadav, who was Rohit Sharma's deputy in IPL 2023 and also led the team when the 36-year-old played as an Impact Player, posted a cryptic Instagram Story after Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain of Mumbai Indians.

On Saturday morning, Suryakamar Yadav posted a broken heart emoji on his Instagram Story. The post from the star batter and one of the closest allies of Rohit Sharma, is understandably related to the news of Hardik Pandya being named the new Mumbai Indians captain.

While Ishan Kishan, another key Mumbai Indians player shares a great bond with Hardik Pandya, someone like Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera came into the limelight under Rohit Sharma's watch and in the absence of the new Mumbai Indians captain.

Mumbai Indians move to appoint Hardik Pandya captain has created a major furore, and the players of the franchise are also expected to play some more part in it.
