Matheesha Pathirana Injury Update: Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana continues his recovery from injury but will remain unavailable for Chennai Super Kings' much-anticipated IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that the young pacer is progressing well but isn't match-fit yet. "He is recovering," Fleming stated on the eve of the high-voltage encounter, reinforcing hopes of Pathirana's return in the coming weeks.

However, there is still no official word on the specific nature of his injury. Former CSK player Suresh Raina had earlier mentioned during the season opener against Mumbai Indians that the 21-year-old had been dealing with a fitness issue.

Matheesha Pathirana, who played a pivotal role for Chennai in IPL 2024 before being sidelined due to a hamstring injury, was retained ahead of the mega auction. His unavailability means CSK will once again have to rely on their backup pace options.

In their first match against Mumbai, new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad opted for Australian seamer Nathan Ellis, alongside spinners Noor Ahmad, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed also featured, while Sam Curran contributed with his all-round abilities.

With Pathirana missing out, Chennai might continue with the same combination against RCB, though an additional pace option like Mukesh Choudhary or Kamlesh Nagarkoti could be considered depending on pitch conditions.

CSK's bowlers will have their work cut out against a power-packed RCB lineup featuring Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and the explosive Phil Salt. Bengaluru's middle order, strengthened by Liam Livingstone and Tim David, poses a serious threat, especially at Chepauk, where stroke-makers thrive if the surface plays true.
