Bengaluru, February 21: R Samarth and Shryeas Gopal joined familar hero Mayank Agarwal in the party as Karnataka trounced Hyderabad by 103 runs to enter the semifinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday (February 21).

Once Karnataka registered a massive 347 for eight in 50 overs, Hyderabad were not even in picture and were bundled out for 244 in 42.5 overs.

The genesis of Karnataka's big win at the Feroze Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi was in the massive second wicket alliance between Mayank Agarwal (140, 111b, 12x4, 7x6) and R Samarth (125, 124b, 13x4).

After the early loss of Karun Nair (10), Agarwal and Samarth added 242 runs in little over 35 overs, a stand that was dominated by Agarwal who is having a dream season so far after accumulating over 1,000 runs in Ranji Trophy alone.

Samarth's innings was more supportive in nature but no less significant from the team's perspective as Hyderabad players engaged themselves in ball hunting for a good part of the game.

The dismissal of Agarwal and Samarth saw Karnataka losing a slew of wickets with pacer Mohammad Siraj taking five wickets. But by then Karnataka had reached a position of strength and the bowlers just needed to back up the batsmen.

They did just that. Leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal bagged five wickets conceding 31 runs as Hyderabad crumbled against the pressure put on them by a mountain of a total. Stuart Binny supported Shreyas with a three-wicket haul.

There were pockets of resistance such as fifties by skipper Ambati Rayudu (64) D Ravi Teja (53) but they remained just that - personal milestones.
