Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face a major setback ahead of IPL 2025, as three of their key pacers -- Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan -- await fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before their season opener against Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
While LSG remains hopeful about at least two of them returning in time, uncertainty looms over Mayank's availability for a significant portion of the tournament, reported Cricbuzz.

Mayank Yadav, who was retained by LSG for Rs 11 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, has been recovering from a lumbar stress injury that sidelined him since October 2024 after his T20I debut against Bangladesh. Currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Mayank has recently resumed bowling.
However, according to ESPNCricinfo's earlier report, the 22-year-old speedster is expected to miss at least the first half of the tournament, with his return hinging on his progress in recovery.
Avesh Khan, another crucial member of LSG's pace attack, is undergoing rehab for a knee cartilage issue, reported Cricbuzz. Following Madhya Pradesh's Ranji Trophy match against Kerala in January, he was referred to the NCA for treatment and has since been in rehabilitation. While his recovery is progressing, the extent of his fitness remains unclear.
Meanwhile, little information is available regarding Mohsin Khan's condition. The left-arm pacer last played a domestic match on December 31, 2024, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he bowled only 5.5 overs. Since then, details about his injury have been scarce. LSG management remains hopeful that he, along with at least one of the other two pacers, will receive clearance before their first game.
Mayank Yadav's potential absence is a significant blow for LSG, given his sensational debut season in IPL 2024. He had made an immediate impact, clocking speeds of 156.7 kmph and securing back-to-back Player of the Match awards in his first two games. His performances not only bolstered LSG's bowling attack but also earned him a call-up to the Indian national team.
LSG's campaign kicks off in less than two weeks, and the availability of their pace trio will be crucial in shaping their season. As Zaheer Khan, LSG's director of cricket, stated, "We are working closely with the NCA on Mayank's recovery roadmap. He is not only important for LSG but also for Indian cricket."
