The Indian Premier League 2023 schedule has been released on Friday (February 17) as the most popular T20 franchise tournament starts on March 31 and will continue till May 28.
This edition of the IPL will see a landmark in the IPL history as the 1000th game of the coveted tournament will be played this season.
And fittingly, two of the most successful teams in the IPL will be locking horns against each other for the 1000th IPL game.
The 1000th game of the IPL history will be played on May 6.
The 1000th IPL match will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The match will start at 3.30 PM IST.
Mumbai Indians, the Five-time IPL champions will be taking on Four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings on May 6 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, which is set to be the 1000th IPL fixture.
It is quite fitting that two best IPL teams will be associated with a historic game of the tournament, which took birth in 2008 with a blistering match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Since its inception in 2008, the 15 editions of IPL have seen five different champions. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have won the tournament 5 and 4 times respectively, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders (2), Sunrisers Hyderabad (2, one time as Deccan Chargers), Rajasthan Royals (1) and defending Champions Gujarat Titans (1).
Also, this is the first time since 2019 that the IPL will be returning to its traditional venues. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, IPL has been held in the UAE and in some selected cities in India for the past couple of seasons.
In 2022, the group stage of the IPL was played in Mumbai and Pune, while the play-offs and the final took place in Kolkata and Ahmedabad. New franchise Lucknow Super Giants will play in front of their home crowd for the first time, while Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings will play a couple of their home games in Guwahati and Dharamshala respectively.
