Mumbai Indians have retained the core and added a familiar face along with 12 releases from the 2023 squad ahead of the mini auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
MI have retained their spine in skipper Rohit Sharma, star batter Suryakumar Yadav and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. In total, they have retained 17 players from the squad that exited in the Eliminator in IPL 2023.

Apart from the retentions, the five-time champions, who will look to end their two-year trophy drought, has also roped in Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya as a cash-only trade from Gujarat Titans for Rs 15 Crore.
With Pandya moving in, MI boosted their lowly Rs 25 Lakh purse with the trade of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who was the second most expensive buy last year, to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Among the 12 released players, at least seven are a group of pace bowlers in the form of Jofra Archer, Riley Meredith, Duan Jansen, Chris Jordan, Jhye Richardson, Arshad Khan and Sandeep Warrier.
The five-time winners also released Hrithik Shokeen, Ramandeep Singh and Raghav Goyal. Despite all the releases, MI's purse received a boost only via the trade of Green. They still need to fill in the void especially in the bowling attack as they need at least two first-choice options.
Mumbai Indians will look to bring in one elite player and also look to add some exciting T20 talent with 8 slots, including 4 overseas slot, still left to fill at the auction on December 19, 2023.
