MI Retention List for IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians (MI), one of the most decorated teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has officially released its retention list for the upcoming 2025 season.
The franchise, known for its consistent championship runs, has kept faith in its core players as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 campaign. MI has retained five star players, including stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, the latter expected to continue his captaincy role as he did in the previous season.

These retentions have set MI back by ₹75 crore out of their available ₹120 crore, leaving them with a healthy ₹45 crore for the IPL 2025 auction. Interestingly, while Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya remain pivotal to the team’s strategy, neither of them commands the highest salary on the roster. Jasprit Bumrah, the ace pacer, leads the salary chart, a clear indication of his value as a bowling powerhouse in the MI squad.
In IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma was one of MI’s top performers with 417 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 150, including 45 fours and 23 sixes. His experience and aggressive style make him indispensable at the top of the order. Tilak Varma, retained as an emerging talent, showed promise with 416 runs at a strike rate of 149.64, confirming his potential as MI’s next big batting star.
Suryakumar Yadav, known for his explosive middle-order performances, scored 345 runs with a strike rate of 167.48. His ability to shift momentum with his high strike rate remains a crucial element for MI’s batting lineup. Jasprit Bumrah took 20 wickets in 13 matches, maintaining his reputation as a lethal bowler in tight situations. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya contributed 216 runs and claimed 11 wickets, adding invaluable all-round strength.
