In reply, Rahane hit seven fours and three sixes en route to fastest IPL 2023 fifty off just 19 balls as CSK won the match in 18.1 overs. Rituraj Gaikwad and CSK's Impact Player Ambati Rayudu remained unbeaten on 40 (36) and 20 (16) runs respectively.

CSK now have two wins in three games while MI have lost both their matches so far. The MS Dhoni-led side has jumped to fourth spot after the win. Mumbai are reeling at the eighth spot.

Here are the key highlights from the MI vs CSK match.

Rohit and Ishan depart after getting starts

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Ishan Kishan got Mumbai off to a flying start but could not capitalise on their starts. Rohit (21 off 13) was dismissed by a Jaffer from pacer Tushar Deshpande, while Kishan (32 off 21) was outdone by Ravindra Jadeja.

Ishan's failure is a matter of big concern for MI now. His scores in the last five international T20Is are - 1, 19, 4, 1 and 2. He scored 10 runs in his first match of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Rohit also scored his last fifty in the shortest format in October 2022 against Netherlands.

Green fails to justify his price tag once again, SKY's poor run continues

Cameron Green, the 23-year-old, Australian all-rounder was bought for Rs 17.50 by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 auction. However, he failed to justify the massive price tag once again. He was dismissed for 5 against RCB.

On Saturday, his 11-ball stay for 12 runs came to an end after a stunning return catch from Ravindra Jadeja. Also, he has taken just one wicket at an average of 50 and an economy rate of 10 from the first two matches for MI.

The lanky cricketer is not the only player struggling in Mumbai camp. Suryakumar Yadav, the number one ranked T20I batter in the world, was dismissed for 1. His scores in the last five outings (across formats) read - 1, 15, 0, 0, 0. Mitchell Santner got the right-hander stumped by MS Dhoni in his latest outing.

Left-arm spinners do everything right at Wankhede

The initial three overs gave early signs of a batting carnage by Mumbai on their home ground, however, before the plan could materialise, CSK's left-arm spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner wreaked havoc. Jadeja picked three wickets (Kishan, Green and Tilak Varma), while Santner scalped the wickets of (Suryakumar and Arshad Khan).

The two spinners combined together to give just 48 runs in eight overs for five wickets.

Rahane ransack home ground with 19-ball fifty

Out-of-favour Ajinkya Rahane made his CSK debut in some style. The 34-year-old smashed the fastest IPL 2023 fifty off just 19 balls. The clean hitting carnage from the local boy saw him score 61 runs off 27 balls with the help of seven sixes and three maximums. The opener partnered for 82 runs off 44 balls for the second wicket partnership with Gaikwad.

The fifty was third fastest against MI in the IPL and overall, joint second-fastest by a CSK batter in the history of the cash-rich league.
