MI vs CSK IPL 2024: Who may get Maximum Wickets in Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings?

In the 29th Match of IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will meet each other at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (April 14).

These two arch-rivals had faced each other on 36 occasions in the past and Mumbai got the edge as they won 20 of them, while CSK got victorious in 16 matches. In their last three faces, CSK had bettered their rival.

MI vs CSK

Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians did not get the start they expected, as they lost the first three matches of the season but they came back to winning from the fourth match and now sitting at seventh with 4 points in five matches. Chennai, playing the same number of matches, collected 6 points and returned to winning by beating KKR in their last match.

IPL 2024 MI vs CSK: Bowling Squad Comparison

Both the teams’ bowling units are full of seasoned players. For MI, Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee will lead the pace department. Other fast bowlers are Nuwan Thushara, Kwena Maphaka, Akash Madhwal and Romario Shepherd. In the spinner brigade, the only veteran Piyush Chawla will be assisted by the likes of Mohammad Nabi, Shams Mulani and Tilak Verma.

Compared to MI, CSK’s bowling unit is more star-studded on paper. Mustafizur Rahman, Tushar Deshpande, Matheesha Pathirana, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur all the pacers are playing very well this season. Spinners are also in the form and Chennai has spinners like Ravindra Jadeja, Maheesh Theekshana and Moeen Ali.

MI vs CSK IPL 2024: Who will be the Highest wicket-takers?

Jasprit Bumrah (MI): After missing the previous season of the IPL, he returned in IPL 2024 with a bang and now placed second in the race for the Purple cap. The 31-year-old Indian fast bowler took 10 wickets in five IPL matches this season and has 155 wickets in his career, with an impressive economy rate of 7.34. His economical bowling combined with an incredibly precise rate for placing yorkers made him a lethal bowler in death overs. This skill will be useful in the encounter versus RCB.

Gerald Coetzee (MI): With 8 wickets in five matches Coetzee is the second-highest wicket-taker for MI in this season so far. Despite being a newcomer to the IPL, the 23-year-old South African has shown promises. Injury remains a concern for him, just like any other tall fast bowler. Coetzee can be an invaluable asset for South Africa Cricket if he can stay fit in future.

Mustafizur Rahman (CSK): The Bangladeshi fast bowler joined CSK during the 2024 auction, but he has quite little IPL experience in IPL. With an impressive economy rate of 7.94, he took 56 wickets in 52 games. In four IPL matches, he has taken nine wickets and is fourth in the race for the purple cap. With tonnes of international cricket experience, this highly gifted fast bowler is a great addition to the CSK squad.

Tushar Deshpande (CSK): The 29-year-old Indian pacer was the highest wicket-taker for CSK in the last IPL with 21 wickets in 16 matches. The right-arm medium-fast bowler has bagged 5 wickets already in this season. In his IPL career, he claimed 30 wickets so far. Just like last season, this year also Deshpande proved himself as a crucial member of this CSK squad by getting wickets regularly for the team.

The two five-time champions will fight each other to move forward towards the spot for the playoffs. Both of the teams came back to winning after losing a few games. Now they will try to extend their winning streak by hook and crook. A highly thrilling cricket drama can be expected from this unmatched rivalry between these titans on Sunday evening.
