MI vs DC: The Wankhede Stadium is set to host a high-pressure clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday, May 21, with both sides locked in a tight race for the final IPL 2025 playoff spot.
However, the weather in Mumbai may prove to be an unexpected hurdle, adding another layer of drama to this crucial encounter.

As per forecasts from Accuweather, the evening skies over Mumbai are likely to be overcast with a 25% chance of rainfall. A thick cloud cover, predicted to be at 100%, raises concerns about possible interruptions during the game.
In anticipation of weather-related disruptions during this intense playoff race, the BCCI has already revised the reserve time for IPL matches from one hour to two. Initially introduced only for the knockout stages, this rule was activated earlier during the CSK vs RR game and will be enforced again for MI vs DC.
Currently, Mumbai Indians sit on 14 points while Delhi Capitals are just a step behind with 13. A victory for Mumbai would seal their place in the playoffs. But in the event of a washout, both teams would earn one point each - a scenario that slightly tilts the advantage toward MI.
If the match is abandoned, MI would move to 15 points and DC to 14. Delhi would then have a clear qualification path: beat Punjab Kings in their final match and hope MI falters against the same opponent. This would take DC to 16 points, pushing MI out of the top four with just 15.
However, Mumbai still holds the stronger position overall. A win against Punjab Kings in their last group game would take them to 17 points - an unbeatable tally for Delhi or any other team outside the current top three. Even if MI loses to PBKS, they could still qualify, provided Delhi also suffers a defeat to the same team, leaving MI ahead by a single point.
As the playoff race reaches its boiling point, both teams will be desperate for a full game at Wankhede. But with rain in the air, contingency plans and calculations could come into play in what promises to be a nail-biting finish to the league stage.
