MI vs DC IPL 2025: Will Rain Play Spoilsport In Mumbai?- Weather Forecast

MI vs DC: As Mumbai Indians (MI) gear up to face Delhi Capitals (DC) in a crucial IPL 2025 clash on Wednesday, May 21, at the Wankhede Stadium, all eyes are not just on the pitch - but also on the skies.

With playoff spots on the line, the much-anticipated encounter could be affected by adverse weather conditions.

MI vs DC

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, warning of heavy showers over the next few days, including match day. This has raised serious concerns about a potential washout that could drastically impact the playoff race.

According to AccuWeather, there is a 71% chance of thunderstorms in the morning around 11 AM, which slightly decreases to 49% by noon. Conditions are expected to improve later in the afternoon, with rain probabilities dropping to around 20% between 1 PM and 5 PM.

By 7:30 PM - the scheduled toss time - the likelihood of rain falls to just 7%, with the temperature forecasted to hover around 29°C.

However, BBC Weather paints a more uncertain picture. Their forecast shows a 35% chance of rain at the start of the match, increasing sharply to 70% by 9:30 PM. The conflicting forecasts highlight the unpredictability of the current weather system over Mumbai.

This virtual knockout game carries high stakes for both franchises. A washout would mean each team gets just one point, pushing playoff qualification scenarios to the final group-stage matches. In such a case, Mumbai would play Punjab Kings on May 26, while Delhi would face the same side two days earlier on May 24 in Jaipur.

If play does go ahead but gets interrupted, the match officials may invoke the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, which often comes into play in rain-affected games and can dramatically alter the course of the match.

With the weather likely to be a deciding factor, players, fans, and organizers will be hoping that the rain stays away long enough to allow this crucial fixture to unfold without disruption.
