Gujarat Titans has registered the 3rd lowest powerplay score in the ongoing IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians.
Chasing a target of 156, GT managed to score 29 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first six overs. The early dismissal of Sai Sudharsan for 5 runs by Trent Boult in the second over set a restrained tone for the innings.

The subdued approach can be attributed to the challenging conditions, including a light drizzle and a dust storm, which made stroke play difficult. Additionally, MI's disciplined bowling attack, featuring Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and Deepak Chahar, effectively curtailed scoring opportunities.
MI's innings began with early setbacks, losing openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma within the first four overs. However, a resilient partnership between Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav added 71 runs, stabilizing the innings. Jacks scored a brisk 53 off 35 balls, while Yadav contributed 35 off 24 deliveries. Despite their efforts, the middle order struggled against GT's spinners, with Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan claiming crucial wickets. Corbin Bosch provided a late surge, hitting two sixes in the final over, helping MI reach a competitive total of 155/8.
In IPL 2025, the lowest powerplay score so far has been 24/4 by SRH against Mumbai Indians. The Capitals have scored the 2nd-lowest total this season and they have also equalled the record of losing most wickets among the low-scoring teams in the IPL 2025. On May 6, GT has now scored the third lowest total.

GT - 29/1 vs MI
CSK - 30/3 vs RCB

While DC's 26/4 is concerning, it doesn't rank among the lowest powerplay scores in IPL history. The lowest powerplay score recorded is 14/2 by Rajasthan Royals against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009, an edition of IPL which was played entirely in South Africa. Sunrisers Hyderabad themselves matched this record in 2022, scoring 14/3 against Rajasthan Royals.
