It is a monumental clash between East and West as Kolkata Knight Riders take on Mumbai Indians in a crucial IPL 2024 clash on Friday (May 3).
For Mumbai Indians, it is imperative to win as a defeat would end their playoff hopes. For Kolkata Knight Riders, a win is pivotal as that would take them further away from the mid-table muddle and put them in the race for the top two.

The match is massive for both teams, but surely more for the Paltans. Amid their woes, Mumbai will be taking confidence from their record against KKR.
Out of 32 matches in IPL, MI have registered 23 wins over the Knight Riders, the most by a team against a single opponent in the competition history. Although KKR have won three out of their last five matches against MI, in IPL 2023, Mumbai secured a convincing win over the Knight Riders.
MI and KKR played the solitary match of the season at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 22 of IPL 2023.
KKR batted first and scored 185 runs courtesy of a century from Venkatesh Iyer. The southpaw scored 104 runs off 51 balls, thus becoming only the second KKR batter to score a century. Hrithik Shokeen was the key MI bowler with a couple of scalps. Shokeen was also involved in a verbal spat with then-KKR captain Nitish Rana.
In the run chase, Mumbai Indians made a strong start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Although the former got out after 20 runs, Kishan scored a sublime half-century (58 off 25 balls). Suryakumar Yadav also batted exquisitely while Tilak Varma and Tim David played a superb hand as the Paltans chased the score with more than two overs to spare and won the match by 5 wickets.
KKR: 185/6 in 20 Overs (Venkatesh Iyer 104, Andre Russell 21; Hrithik Shokeen 2/34)
MI: 186/5 in 17.4 Overs (Ishan Kishan 58, Suryakumar Yadav 43; Suyash Sharma 2/27)
Result: Mumbai Indians won by 5 wickets
