Suryakumar Yadav on Monday (March 31) joined four other Indians and also became the second quickest in terms of ball faced to complete 8000 runs in T20 cricket across international, IPL and domestic competitions.
The Indian T20I skipper achieved the feat during Mumbai Indians' first win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, an 8-wicket victory over the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

With an unbeaten 27 off 9 balls, Suryakumar joined the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan to reach the landmark in the shortest format of the game. Suryakumar reached the milestone in his 312th match in the format with an average of 34 and a strike rate of 152.
Kohli is India's leading scorer in the format with 12,976 runs followed by Rohit who has accumulated 11,838 runs, while the retired stars Raina and Dhawan have each amassed 8654 runs and 9797 runs respectively. Here is a look at the leading run-scorers from Indian in the shortest format:
By reaching the feat in 5256 balls, Suryakumar Yadav became the second quickest to complete 8000 T20 runs behind West Indies and KKR great Andre Russell, who had taken 4749 balls to reach the landmark.
In IPL, the 34-year-old, who started his career at KKR, has amassed 3698 runs in 153 matches with 2 centuries and 24 fifties to his name. In T20 Internationals, Suryakumar has scored 2598 runs including four centuries, which is the second-highest by an Indian in T20Is.
