MI vs LSG: On a dazzling Sunday evening at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a batting masterclass to outgun Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs in the 45th match of the Indian Premier League 2025. A boisterous home crowd was treated to a spectacular display of aggressive strokeplay and disciplined bowling, as MI stamped their authority with a commanding performance.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians unleashed a batting blitzkrieg to post a mammoth 215 for 7 in their 20 overs. It was a night when nearly every batter came to the party, with dazzling contributions up and down the order.

Leading from the front was opener Ryan Rickelton, who set the tone early with a breezy 58 off 32 deliveries, peppered with six fours and four sixes. Rickelton showed tremendous intent, taking the attack to the LSG bowlers inside the Powerplay. His dismissal in the ninth over, caught by Ayush Badoni off Digvesh Rathi, did little to stem the flow of runs.
At the other end, Rohit Sharma, usually the calm anchor, fell cheaply, scoring just 12. However, the real fireworks began with Will Jacks, who lit up Wankhede with a blistering 29 off 21 balls, before he was bowled by Prince Yadav. Suryakumar Yadav, in sublime touch, unfurled a breathtaking 54 from 28 balls, striking four fours and four sixes with trademark flair. His knock, marked by effortless wristwork and innovation, delighted the home fans.
The middle-order power came courtesy of Tilak Varma, who smacked a rapid 65 from just 50 deliveries, maintaining a strike rate of 120.00. Although MI suffered a mini-collapse after Tilak's dismissal, with Hardik Pandya (5) and Suryakumar falling in quick succession, the finishing touches were expertly applied by Naman Dhir. The young all-rounder remained unbeaten on 25 off 11 balls, striking two sixes, as Mumbai surged past the 200-run mark.
Corbin Bosch added a brisk 20 from 10 balls before Avesh Khan, who finished with two wickets, claimed his scalp. Despite some spirited bowling efforts from LSG - notably Mayank Yadav (2 for 40) and Avesh Khan (2 for 42) - MI's batting juggernaut looked unstoppable.
Chasing 216 was always going to be a mountainous task, and LSG needed a strong start. However, Trent Boult ensured it was MI who drew first blood, removing Aiden Markram (9) early. Mitchell Marsh tried to counterattack with a belligerent 34 off 24 balls, but his dismissal at a crucial juncture derailed the visitors' hopes.
Will Jacks turned the game firmly in MI's favour with a brilliant spell of off-spin, dismissing the dangerous Nicholas Pooran (27) and skipper Rishabh Pant (42) in quick succession. Pant's fluent innings, laced with two sixes, had momentarily raised LSG's hopes, but his untimely departure - caught by Karn Sharma - left them reeling.
Ayush Badoni (35) and David Miller (24) offered some resistance, but Jasprit Bumrah's sheer class with the ball proved too much to handle. Bumrah returned figures of 4-0-24-4, ripping through the middle and lower order with clinical precision. In the end, LSG were bundled out for 161, all out off their full 20 overs, handing Mumbai a handsome 54-run victory.
The value of Trent Boult's experience shone brightly. He bowled an impeccable line and length to return figures of 4-0-20-3, including the key wickets of Marsh, Badoni and Digvesh Singh Rathi. Boult's early breakthroughs ensured LSG were always playing catch-up.
Corbin Bosch chipped in with 1 for 26, and Deepak Chahar, although expensive, picked up a key wicket. Hardik Pandya's tactical acumen was also on full display, marshalling his bowlers expertly and maintaining pressure throughout.
