MI vs RCB: Virat Kohli or Rajat Patidar, Who was the Most Valuable Player of Bengaluru Triumph?

By MyKhel Staff

MI vs RCB: Royal Challengers Bengaluru's 12-run win over Mumbai Indians wasn't just another victory-it was history rewritten. After a decade of heartbreak at the Wankhede, RCB finally snapped their losing streak in Mumbai.

But in a match filled with big hits, late twists, and personal battles, the question lingers: who was RCB's real MVP --Virat Kohli or Rajat Patidar? Let's break it down.

MI vs RCB Virat Kohli Rajat Patidar IPL 2025

Virat Kohli's 67 off 33 was more than just a number. It was intent, clarity, and control packed into one of his most explosive T20 innings in recent memory. This was Kohli unshackled-hitting his fastest IPL fifty since 2018, his most rapid in T20s since 2019. He attacked spinners with slog sweeps, raced through the powerplay, and set the tone with Devdutt Padikkal in a 73-run blitz. It was Kohli, but redefined-less anchor, more aggressor.

His aggression up front allowed Rajat Patidar to take his time. Starting with just 8 off 10, Patidar might have looked scratchy, but what followed was nothing short of calculated destruction. He switched gears with such ease that Hardik Pandya-who had kept other batters quiet-was taken apart.

Patidar smashed 33 off 12 from Hardik alone, and later dented Mitchell Santner's figures with a bruising 20-run over. His 64 off 34 included explosive strokeplay, precise footwork, and an ice-cold temperament during the death overs, especially when Bumrah was operating at the other end. Kohli may have set the fire, but Patidar kept it burning till the end.

Yet, to reduce this game to a batting duel would be doing disservice to what followed. RCB's bowlers, particularly Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma, and Krunal Pandya, held their nerve in the face of a raging Hardik-Tilak counterattack. Hazlewood's tight overs early, and again in the 19th, were key to denying MI momentum. And Krunal, with a career-best 4/45, defended 18 in the last over to shut down a rampaging MI chase.

But in terms of sheer value, context, and timing-Patidar edges ahead. Kohli's innings laid the foundation, but Patidar's late surge ensured RCB reached a total that pushed MI beyond the edge. He chose the perfect bowlers to attack, adapted when the situation demanded, and turned a platform into a winning total. Kohli was sensational, but Patidar's knock shifted the match from "competitive" to "commanding."

So, who was the MVP? In a team sport like this, it's often a collective but if one must be singled out, Rajat Patidar's timing, tempo, and tactical hitting made him the silent game-changer. It wasn't the loudest innings, but it was the most decisive.
