Mumbai Indians lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring game where SRH posted the highest total in the history of the IPL. In an exhibition of some thrilling batting displays, MI lost the game by a big margin, their second straight defeat in IPL 2024, but there were some positives and lessons for the Hardik Pandya-led side.
The Mumbai-based franchise, under the leadership of their newly-appointed captain Hardik, didn't get the best of starts but it is nothing new for the franchise and its fans. MI are often tagged as late bloomers.

In the first innings, SRH managed to post a humongous score of 277 for three which also happened to be the highest-ever total in an innings in IPL history. The feat became possible by some amazing batting displays from Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen for SRH.
This innings witnessed many records being shattered and set by the Hyderabad batters. In return, the Mumbai side ended their chase after posting 246 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of five wickets as a jaw-dropping 523 were scored in the game. Let us take a look at the lessons MI should take from their previous game before stepping out for Rajasthan Royals clash at home.
Lacklustre Performances by Bowling Units: Despite the pitch being a batter's haven the lack of presence of enough experienced bowlers helped the SRH batters to go on a run-fest. Except for Jasprit Bumrah, all other bowlers failed to muster any resistance in front of the stormy display by the likes of Sharma, Head or Klassen.
Bumrah should be brought into the attack a little early by the skipper for he can do the damage early in the innings for MI. Piyush Chawla, the lone seasoned spinner of the team, also leaked too many runs in both of the matches MI played. Chawla and Shams Mulani - who made his IPL debut this season - will have to share the burden of the spin department in the upcoming games.
Belligerent mentality from the Batting Unit: After SRH's unprecedented first innings, it was expected that MI batters would collapse under pressure. Nevertheless, they had the fortitude to fight back and scored 246 for 5, which is also the sixth-highest innings total in IPL history.
The top and middle of the MI batting order showcased the intent to mount the biggest run-chase ever in IPL history. Unfortunately, though, that stellar batting performance fell short of bringing the Indians their first victory but it was a positive sign nonetheless for the five-time champions.
The stark contrasts between the batting and bowling lineup were quite evident. The lessons from this match will be handy to reverse their problems, in their remaining journey of IPL 2024.
