MI vs RR IPL 2024: Three Reasons why Mumbai Indians Lost against Rajasthan Royals
Mumbai Indians lost their third consecutive match as they suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals on Monday (April 1).
It was a batting collapse from the Paltans as they could only manage 125 runs after batting first. The paltry target of 126 was chased with ease by the Royals, who registered their status at the top of the table.

It was yet another poor performance from the Mumbai outfit and they remain at the foot of the IPL points table after the defeat. It is quite glaring how Mumbai's decent batting lineup crumbled but there were many other aspects as well. Here are the main reasons for their loss-
A Batting Collapse
It was a poor night for the Mumbai batters. They lost four very early wickets, within the first 21 balls to be precise. Trent Boult struck thrice in four balls to break their spine and the innings couldn't recuperate from there.
The dismissals of Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir and Dewald Brevis without adding any score contributed to their landslide. Even after Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma's brief resistance, once the duo fell, it was a downhill slide for them.
Indisciplined Bowling
While defending just 125 runs, Mumbai bowlers were guilty of wayward bowling. Their pacers were not disciplined and that is quite vivid when we look at the Extras tally. A total of 10 runs were given through Wides, which itself tells how radarless the bowling was.
The likes of Kwena Maphaka and Gerald Coetzee were too expensive and that gave Rajasthan batters the leeway despite losing a couple of wickets in the powerplay. Akash Madhwal was the sole performer with the ball as the left-arm pacer picked up three wickets in his four overs, giving away just 20 runs.
A Disjointed Team
Mumbai Indians have looked disjointed so far this season. The saga of Hardik Pandya and the constant bashing of the current MI captain has taken a toll on the team, which is visibly reflected in the results. The booing of Hardik at the Toss, the riveting chants of Rohit Sharma and constant bashing of the Mumbai Indians skipper have cracked their 'One Family' vision. Either it galvanizes the whole team, but in case for Mumbai, the players seem to have succumbed to the outside chaos.
The Mumbai Indians players will have to get their act right. The team is struggling at the moment but they have six days till the next match. Delhi Capitals will come to Wankhede to April 7 and the next five days will be crucial for the team as a whole to revitalize themselves.
