Mumbai Indians, one of the most celebrated teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has always been in the spotlight for its dynamic performance and the strong bond between the team and its fans.
But the bond seems to have taken a significant crack after the recent developments, which saw Hardik Pandya swooping in and getting captaincy, thus replacing long-standing captain Rohit Sharma at the helm.

We have witnessed the adverse effects of fan wrath on Hardik Pandya, which has transcended to their owners, the Ambani Family as well. Pandya was the subject of vehement boos at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was understandable because he joined Mumbai after switching from Gujarat Titans.
But people have bashed Hardik with the name of Rohit Sharma. In the subsequent match against SRH, there were Rohit! Rohit! chants across the stadium along with another set of boos for Hardik. Many visuals and videos on social media have emerged showing people abusing Hardik Pandya, some in front of MI owner Nita Ambani.
As the Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals at home on Monday (April 1), there are speculations of another set of fan unrest. A lot of rumours have been going around which say the MI fans may disapprove of their new captain at the home match, but we don't want to get into that. Mumbai can't afford to Boo their new captain, for the sake of their own team.
First and foremost, Pandya's hard work and dedication to the game are undeniable. From his early days with the Mumbai Indians, he has shown a level of commitment that is both inspiring and commendable. And it was not Hardik Pandya's fault to be appointed as captain. It stemmed from the top-most level of management as they looked to appoint someone new for the future. Hence it's not Hardik's fault at all.
Throughout his tenure with Mumbai Indians, Pandya has delivered some unforgettable performances. His ability to turn the game around with both bat and ball has been instrumental in many of the team's victories. He joined Gujarat for two seasons but now MI can benefit from a much more experienced Hardik. Also, the fans need to support their players and they can't turn their back against them.
Mumbai Indians simply can't afford to boo Hardik Pandya for the sake of their own team. With two defeats in two matches, Mumbai Indians are at the bottom of the table. And if they lose against Rajasthan in Mumbai amid a hostile atmosphere of fan unrest, that will only mutilate the team morale and cause bigger trouble.
Mumbai Indians are desperate to get their first points on the board, and they will require their fans' support and cheer for them albeit for the new captain, Hardik Pandya.
