MI vs RR: Noisy Wankhede fans boo Hardik Pandya before going mum after Rohit Sharma's record-equalling IPL duck

MI vs RR: In dramatic scenes at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (April 1), home fans booed their captain Hardik Pandya and chanted Rohit Sharma's name only to get silenced by Trent Boult who dismissed the former captain for a golden duck.

Hardik Pandya received the most hostile welcome by fans at the Wankhede Stadium after Sanjay Manjrekar announced his name at toss ahead of the match. The booing was so loud that the former cricketer had to ask the fans to "behave".

As soon as Hardik Pandya started to speak after being asked by Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson to bat first, the fans started chanting Rohit Sharma's name. Hardik wore a distraught look on his face all the while.

Moments later, the former Mumbai Indians captain walked in to open the innings amid huge applause from the fans. However, Rajasthan Royals left-arm pacer Trent Boult played the perfect spoilsport by dismissing the star batter for a golden duck. Rohit edged the delivery before Samson took a superb diving catch.

The fans were left stunned as Rohit started the long way back to the pavilion. The dismissal made him go on top of an unlikely list where he joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Dinesh Karthik.

Rohit Sharma equalled Dinesh Karthik's unwanted record for most IPL ducks. Both the senior batters have got out on ducks for 17 times in IPL. Glenn Maxwell is second on the list with 15 ducks in the IPL.

Mumbai Indians crumble at Wankhede

Trent Boult struck on the very next delivery to dismiss Naman Dhir for a golden duck. Dewald Brevis was the third Mumbai Indians batter to be dismissed by Trent Boult for a golden duck. Ishan Kishan (16) was dismissed by Nandre Burger as Mumbai Indians lost four wickets for 46 runs at the end of Powerplay. The five-time champions are reeling at the bottom of the points table after losing the first two matches.
