MI vs SRH IPL 2025: What Was The Turning Point As Mumbai Indians Beat Sunrisers Hyderabad By 4 Wickets?

MI vs SRH: Mumbai Indians edged past Sunrisers Hyderabad by four wickets in a thrilling IPL 2025 encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, thanks largely to a match-defining all-round performance from Englishman Will Jacks.

His crucial wickets with the ball and impactful knock in the middle overs turned the game decisively in MI's favour.

MI vs SRH

SRH Struggle to Build Momentum

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, MI's bowlers kept a tight leash on SRH's batters. Openers Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28) and Travis Head (28 off 29) got starts but couldn't convert them into big scores. Head was dismissed twice by Hardik Pandya-once off a no-ball and again on a free-hit-but survived both thanks to the format's quirks, only to eventually fall to Will Jacks.

Jacks broke the backbone of SRH's innings with the wickets of Head and Ishan Kishan in quick succession, finishing with figures of 3-0-14-2, which pegged Hyderabad back. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Trent Boult chipped in with key strikes as SRH crawled to 162/5 in their 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen's 37 off 28 and Aniket Verma's quick 18* gave SRH something to bowl at.

Mumbai's Measured Chase

Mumbai's reply began on a brisk note with Ryan Rickelton (31 off 23) and Rohit Sharma (26 off 16) giving them a solid platform. But the real damage was done by Will Jacks, who hammered 36 off 26 balls at a strike rate of 138.46. His aggressive approach in the middle overs ensured MI stayed ahead of the required rate.

Despite a brief hiccup when Pat Cummins dismissed both Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav (26 off 15), Tilak Varma anchored the chase with an unbeaten 21 off 17 deliveries. Hardik Pandya chipped in with a useful 21 before MI crossed the finish line at 166/6 in 18.1 overs.

Turning Point - Will Jacks' Double Blow

Jacks' double strike in the first innings-removing SRH top-order batters halted their momentum at a crucial juncture. Then, with the bat, he helped stitch a good partnership with SKY that kept Mumbai's innings on track. His all-round brilliance made him an easy pick for Player of the Match.
