Michael Clarke set to retire from international cricket after Ashes: Reports

Nottingham (England), Aug 8: Australia's Test captain Michael Clarke is set to retire from international cricket after the Ashes series, which the team is set to lose today (August 8).

According to reports from the Australian media on Saturday, 34-year-old Clarke will bid adieu to all forms of cricket after the 5th and final Ashes Test (August 20 to 24) against England.

Australia, who are currently playing the 4th Test at Trent Bridge, are set to lose the match and the series 1-3 with the hosts needing just 3 wickets with 90 runs ahead and 1 batting innings remaining. Australia were bowled out for just 60 in the first innings and are struggling at 241/7 in the second. (Ponting says 8 players might not play Tests again)

First casualty from this poor batting show is the skipper Clarke, according to reports. The Australian media claimed that Clarke had already been told that there will be no place for him in the Test squad after the Ashes. (Australian media blasts team)

Before the ongoing 4th Test, Clarke, who has been in poor form entire series with an average of just 16.7 (117 runs in 8 innings, highest score 38), had insisted that he was not retiring. He ended his ODI career in March this year after leading the team to World Cup 2015 glory at home.

Clarke, who made his Test debut against India in Bengaluru in 2004, has played 114 Tests, scoring over 8,000 runs. He retired from limited overs format after playing 245 ODIs and 34 T20Is.
