Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) outgoing Director of Cricket Mike Hesson has expressed his disappointment after his contract was not renewed by the franchise. RCB on Friday appointed former Zimbabwe legend Andy Flower as their new head coach in the lead up to the IPL 2024 season.
Hesson was roped in by RCB in 2019 and the team qualified for the playoffs thrice in a row before their sixth-place finish in the IPL 2023. Sanjay Bangar, who was appointed the head coach on Virat Kohli's recommendation, has also been released from his role.

The change in coaching setup at RCB comes as the star-studded franchise consisting of the likes of Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell continue to search for their first-ever title in the cash-rich league.
Hesson has congratulated Flower for taking over and thanked the management and the RCB fans for their unwavering support during his tenure.
"Although we were able to make good progress making 3 playoffs in the last 4 seasons we were not able to win the elusive trophy that I like so many players, support staff and the amazing fans so dearly wanted," Mike Hesson wrote in his post.
"Although disappointed to be leaving RCB I have some very fond memories working with great people both on and off the park. I would like to thank the management for the opportunity and wish RCB and its new coaching team the very best.
"Lastly to the amazing RCB fans, you are unwavering in your support and passion for the team and made me feel at home. For that I thank you," he added.
The New Zealander started his coaching journey at the young age of 22 with Otago Cricket. His successful tenure of 15 years at Otago Cricket led him to take over as the coach of Kenya after their poor performance in the 2011 World Cup in India.
The 48-year-old also served as the head coach of the New Zealand men's Cricket Team for six years, becoming the Black Caps' longest-serving cricket coach. During his stint, he led the team to a record 13-match winning streak across formats.
