Adelaide, Jan 25 (UNI) Australia wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, who overtook Mark Boucher's record of maximum number of dismissals on the second day of the fourth Test against India admitted that world records were never on his mind when he started the game.
Gilchrist today caught India captain Anil Kumble off Mitchell Johnson to achieve the feat.
''No, I was certainly not that ambitious,'' he was quoted as saying by 'Sky Sports'.
''I don't think any of us in our team, or even this era or any era really, look at stats and set out in pursuit of them.
''And I think if you try to do that in a Test career in particular, if you eye up a stat such as that and try to pursue it you'd stumble very very early,'' he said.
But the 36-year-old left-hander was modest enough to say that had he not dropped a few catches in the ongoing Test series against India, he would have reached the record much earlier.
''I'd have got there a bit quicker if I'd hung on to a few more! ''I don't know what it is about milestone matches and my keeping, when I was in pursuit of my 300th dismissal I dropped a couple, 400th I dropped a couple and in pursuit of this record I dropped one, but so be it.
''It's nice to finally get there,'' he added.
Gilchrist made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1999 and has played 94 matches at a career batting average of 47.4.
