Mishra thanks IPL stint for Test call-up

By Staff

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) Young leg-spinner Amit Mishra today credited his successful stint in the IPL for his inclusion in the Indian team for the upcoming home Test series against Australia.

''I am very happy at being included in the Test team. My performance has been quite good for the last two or three years.

My performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Delhi Daredevils was really good,'' Mishra told UNI.

''My dream of playing for the country has come true,'' he added.

Mishra, who claimed 26 wickets in the IPL with an impressive average of 12.96, also played a pivotal role in the India A team's victory over New Zealand A in a four-day match which concluded in Hyderabad today.

The 25-year-old right armer started his career in 2001 and his attacking line impressed the selectors and he found himself in the national reckoning when he was selected in the squad for the home series against West Indies in October 2002, but did not get an opportunity to play.

He got another chance in the TVS Cup in Dhaka in April 2003.

When asked how it will feel to bowl along side world class spinners like Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, Mishra said,''it is a matter of great pride for me that I will get a chance to play with such great bowlers. I will surely get to learn many things from them.'' He was also elated at making his Test debut against world champions.

''It is a golden opportunity for me. I will try to give my best for the team,'' he gushed.
