Mitchell Marsh set to be ruled out of IPL 2024? Delhi Capital give major update on Australia all-rounder

Mitchell Marsh will be a doubtful starter when Delhi Capitals (DC) take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium on Friday, April 12. Delhi assistant coach Pravin Amre has revealed that the Australian all-rounder has suffered a hamstring injury.

Marsh did not play in the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 7). Mitchell Marsh underwent scans, and the physios will give an update in a week's time, Amre said.

A few of our players are injured, and the worrying sign is Mitch Marsh," Amre said after DC's 29-run loss away to Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday. "He has gone for a scan and the physios will give us a report in a week's time. Then we will come to know what the exact situation is. Whether he can [play the entire season] or not depends on the reports."

Mitchell Marsh's involvement in IPL 2022 was uncertain but he managed to play eight games for Delhi Capitals. In IPL 2020, while representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he was ruled out of the tournament after injuring his ankle in the first match. Marsh opted out of SRH's campaign in IPL 2021 due to bubble fatigue.

He featured in nine IPL 2024 matches and scored 128 runs at an average of 14.22, and a strike rate of 131.95. But he was impressive with the all, taking 12 wickets at an average of 14.16 and an economy rate of 8.42.

Mitchell Marsh's injury would be of major concern for Delhi Capitals who are at the bottom of the 10-team table after losing four of their five matches. Marsh himself would look to not take any major risk as he is expected to be one of the key players for Australia at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Kuldeep Yadav has also been out of action for Delhi due to a groin niggle. Delhi's match against Mumbai marked his third absence in a row.

Amre predicted that Kuldeep would miss "one or two games" more, but that Mukesh Kumar, who has already missed two games, will be available for selection in Delhi's next game on Friday against Lucknow.

"We have to start winning but have been set back by a few injuries," Amre said after DC's fourth defeat in five matches. "In the first game, Ishant [Sharma] couldn't bowl two overs. Then Mukesh got injured. Kuldeep has not played three games. Marsh has a hamstring injury. They are our main players and whoever comes [in for them], they are not as effective because it is like A players vs B players there."
