MLC 2023: Why runs scored, wickets taken in tournament will not be added to career stats of players

Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023, the latest T20 league on the circuit, kicked off with the first match between Texas Super Nights (TSK) and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) at Grand Prairie Stadium on Friday.

TSK registered a comfortable 69-run win after posting a 182-run target for LAKR. Texas opener Devon Conway scored 55 runs off 37 balls before David Miller blasted four sixes and two fours en route to his 61 off 42 balls. Later, leg-spinner Mohammad Mohsin picked four wickets to bundle out Los Angeles at 112 in just 14 overs.

However, all these runs and wickets won't be added to the career stats of the players because Major League Cricket (MLC) does not have an official T20 status.

The league is sanctioned by the ICC and that is the reason why all the big names from different countries have turned up to feature in the inaugural season of the league. In case it was not sanctioned by ICC, the member boards of the ICC would have not granted NOCs to their players. MLC would also have got the tag of a 'rebel league' in that case.

However, that is not the reason why any record made in the league won't be added to the career stats of the players. Despite being sanctioned by the ICC, MLC 2023 does not have an official T20 status.

As the MLC is being held in the USA, an Associate member nation, it hasn't been granted the official T20 status. Abu Dhabi T10 League, US Masters T10 League, Global T20 Canada, ILT20 also fall under the same category. However, that does not at all mean that they are not legitimate tournaments.
