An impressive bowling spell by Hassan Khan and a blistering half-century from Finn Allen led the San Francisco Unicorns to a decisive six-wicket victory over the Seattle Orcas in the 18th match of the MLC 2024 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday.
This win secures the Unicorns a top-two spot on the points table and officially eliminates the Orcas from the tournament. The Seattle Orcas, invited to bat first, faced an immediate setback as they lost both openers in the opening over.

Ryan Rickelton fell to Finn Allen on the very first ball, followed by Aaron Jones being trapped LBW by Carmi le Roux. Despite these early losses, Quinton de Kock anchored the innings with a valiant 62 off 33 balls, supported by Shehan Jayasuriya's 31 off 33 balls, helping the Orcas reach 152/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Quinton de Kock's aggressive approach during the Powerplay allowed Seattle to recover, as they scored 48 runs in the first six overs. De Kock continued to dominate, reaching his fifty off just 28 balls.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Brody Couch dismissed both de Kock and Jayasuriya in quick succession in the 12th over. Hassan Khan then delivered a game-changing spell, taking three wickets for just five runs, which included the crucial scalps of Heinrich Klaasen, Harmeet Singh, and Keemo Paul, leaving Seattle at 116/7.
In response, the San Francisco Unicorns started their chase aggressively, amassing 79 runs in the Powerplay. Finn Allen's explosive knock of 77 off 30 balls, including a 21-ball fifty, laid a solid foundation. Allen's assault on Lungi Ngidi in the fifth over, where he scored 26 runs, was a highlight of the innings. Although Matthew Short fell for 19 off 14 balls, Allen's continued aggression ensured the Unicorns maintained their dominance.
After Allen's departure, having scored 77 off 30 balls, the Unicorns faced a minor hiccup with the dismissals of Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Sherfane Rutherford. However, Josh Inglis (24 off 17) and Corey Anderson steadied the ship and guided the Unicorns to victory with 34 balls to spare.
This comprehensive win underscores the Unicorns' strength in the league, as they remain in second place with nine points from six matches. Meanwhile, the Seattle Orcas' elimination highlights the competitive nature of this season's Major League Cricket.
