The Major League Cricket 2025 playoff match has started with an abandonment as the Qualifier 1 between Texas Super Kings and Washington Freedom was called off due to rain.
Set to be played at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, the match saw no ball bowled despite having the toss, as incessant rain permitted no play.

Although the match got abandoned, Washington Freedom have qualified for the Final, while Texas Super Kings will be playing in the Qualifier 2. They will be up against the winner between MI New York and San Francisco Unicorns.
The Texas Super Kings are playing in Qualifier 2 of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 because of their league position during group stages.
According to MLC rules, when a playoff match is abandoned without a result, the team that finished higher in the league stage points table advances. Washington Freedom, having topped the points table with eight wins in ten matches, progressed directly to the final.
TSK, who finished second with seven wins, were thus directed to the Challenger match (Qualifier 2), where they will face the winner of the Eliminator. This format ensures the higher-ranked team benefits in case of a washout, explaining why Texas Super Kings are now in Qualifier 2.
With the Eliminator also set to be played in Dallas, another rain affair can abandon that match as well. In that case, 4th placed MI New York will be eliminated while San Francisco, who finished 3rd in group stages, will advance to play Qualifier 2.
If all the playoff matches get abandoned due to rain, Washington Freedom, by virtue of topping the group stages, will be crowned as Champions.
