In an emphatic performance at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their first win of IPL 2025, defeating Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets with 15 balls to spare.
Quinton de Kock stole the show, carrying his bat with an unbeaten 97 - the highest individual score for KKR in a successful run chase.

Making his KKR debut, Moeen Ali expressed his delight at the warm reception he received from the team. "It's always nice to meet new people and settle into a new environment," said Ali. "But with KKR, I felt welcomed right away." De Kock echoed similar thoughts, acknowledging the camaraderie within the squad. "Sometimes it takes time to be accepted in a new team, but at KKR, they welcomed me with open arms," the South African opener remarked.
Ali, who made a significant impact with the ball, picked up two crucial wickets while maintaining exceptional control. "My role was to bowl as tightly as possible," he explained. He also lauded his teammate Varun Chakaravarthy, calling him a 'mystery spinner' who adds an edge to KKR's bowling attack.
The England all-rounder was effusive in his praise for de Kock's innings. "It was a brilliant knock. He made batting look easy, even against bowlers like Jofra Archer," Ali said, highlighting how the Proteas star put pressure on the opposition.
The convincing victory was especially satisfying for KKR, coming after a setback in their previous match. Ali emphasized the importance of bouncing back quickly. "Getting a win early prevents overthinking and builds confidence," he noted. The playing conditions, which offered a mix of swing, seam, and spin, played to KKR's strengths.
Reflecting on his move to a franchise with a successful history, Ali said, "When you join a team that's won the IPL multiple times, you know they understand how to win. There's a sense of calm and belief."
With momentum on their side, Kolkata Knight Riders will head to Mumbai for their next challenge, facing the Mumbai Indians on March 31. The team will be eager to build on this dominant performance and continue their winning run.
