Mohammad Abbas Enters Pakistan History With Record-Breaking Lord’s Haul

Mohammad Abbas has etched his name into Pakistan's history at Lord's, becoming the seventh Pakistani bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in a Test at the Home of Cricket during the ongoing second Test against England.

Abbas completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Ollie Robinson with the first ball of the 52nd over of England's second innings on Sunday. Robinson was caught behind by Mohammad Rizwan for eight off 15 balls.

The Pakistan seamer had taken four wickets in England's first innings and has now claimed nine wickets in the match, surpassing Waqar Younis' record for the most wickets by a Pakistani fast bowler in a Test at Lord's.

Mohammad Abbas breaks Waqar Younis' Lord's record

Abbas has taken 9 for 127 in 40.1 overs so far in the ongoing Test, moving past Waqar's previous mark of eight wickets in a match at Lord's.

Waqar recorded figures of 8 for 154 in 49 overs against England in the 1996 Test. Abbas' performance has therefore given him the best match figures by a Pakistani pacer at Lord's, with only Yasir Shah's 10 for 141 in 2016 better among Pakistan bowlers overall.

Yasir remains the only Pakistani to have taken 10 wickets in a Test at the Home of Cricket.

Mohammad Abbas joins elite list of Pakistani five-wicket takers

Abbas is the seventh Pakistani bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test at Lord's.

Khan Mohammad was the first, taking five wickets against England in 1954. He has since been joined by Mudassar Nazar, Waqar Younis, Mushtaq Ahmed, Mohammad Amir, Yasir Shah and now Abbas.

Mudassar holds the record for the best innings figures by a Pakistani at Lord's, having taken 6 for 32 in 19 overs during the second innings of the 1982 Test.

Mohammad Abbas equals Waqar's wickets record against England

The dismissal of Robinson also took Abbas' overall tally against England at Lord's to 17 wickets in just two Tests.

That puts him level with Waqar Younis, who claimed 17 wickets in three Tests at the venue between 1992 and 2001.

Abbas has matched the mark in considerably fewer matches, while his nine-wicket haul in the ongoing Test has already moved him clear of several Pakistan greats on the match-figures list.

If he takes another wicket in the Test, Abbas will also break the record for the most Test wickets at Lord's against England by an Asian bowler. He is currently tied on 17 wickets with Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Ishant Sharma and Waqar Younis.

Only New Zealand's Richard Hadlee and Australia's Glenn McGrath have taken more wickets against England in Tests at Lord's, with both having 26.
