Mohammad Amir Rules Out IPL 2027 Auction Entry

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has put an end to speculation surrounding his possible participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 mini-auction, making it clear that reports linking him to the tournament are untrue.

The 34-year-old left-arm pacer found himself in the headlines after reports suggested that he was considering registering for the IPL auction as a British citizen. However, Amir has now dismissed the claims through a clarification to Cricbuzz.

"I'm not [registering for the auction]," Amir told Cricbuzz.

The speculation surrounding his potential IPL entry gathered momentum after Amir registered for the upcoming Afghanistan Premier League (APL) draft as a British national. He was reportedly placed in the Platinum category, with his registration listed under the United Kingdom.

Amir acquired British citizenship in May 2026, opening new opportunities for him in overseas franchise cricket. Following his change in nationality, he has also featured in English domestic competitions, including the T20 Blast and The Hundred, as a local player.

His British passport had sparked comparisons with former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who represented Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL between 2012 and 2015.

Notably, Pakistani cricketers have not featured in the IPL since the inaugural edition in 2008, largely due to strained political relations between India and Pakistan.

The IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled to take place in Goa on December 16, with franchises preparing to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile, Amir's clarification has brought immediate uncertainty surrounding his IPL prospects to an end. Although he continues to remain active in franchise cricket, his latest statement confirms that he is not entering the upcoming auction.

For now, the former Pakistan international's focus remains on exploring opportunities in other franchise competitions rather than making an IPL appearance in 2027.
