Mohammad Hafeez And New PCB Management Not Getting Along, Relationship With Wahab Riaz Turbulent Too: Report

By MyKhel Staff

Mohammad Hafeez's future as team director of the Pakistan cricket team seems numbered as it has been reported that the former cricketer is not getting along with the new PCB management since the appointment of Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi as the board's chairman, reported Cricket Pakistan.

Adding to his woes, Mohammad Hafeez is also not on good terms with PCB chief selector Wahab Riaz since the former batter openly criticised the appointment of fixing-tainted Salman Butt in the selection committee leading to his subsequent ouster.

As far as Hafeez's relationship with PCB's new top brass is concerned, Mohammad Hafeez was given a cold shoulder by the board recently when he wanted to host a press conference explaining why Pakistan lost in Australia and New Zealand. However, PCB denied him the approval to do so from the official channel but added he can talk to them on his own accord.

Hafeez was appointed as the team director by Naqvi's predecessor Zaka Ashraf before the tour Down Under. He assumed the role of head coach for the tour as well. However, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi is reportedly not to keen on Mohammad Hafeez continuing in the role as he has hinted in the past for his likeness for a foreign coach. The duo is expected to meet soon to decide the former Test cricketer's future with the national team.

The report further added that Mohsin Naqvi is likely to continue with Wahab Riaz as the chief selector as they share a good relationship and have known each other from the past. Amid the ongoing situation with Hafeez, Riaz has reportedly not backed his former teammate.

Interestingly, Wahab Riaz has a close relationship with Mohsin Naqvi. Both remained involved in the previous government as caretaker Ministers. Signs suggest that Wahab has also distanced himself from supporting Hafeez currently.
