GT vs CSK, IPL 2023: Mohammad Shami takes 100th IPL wicket

By Aditya K Halder

Mohammad Shami took his 100th Indian Premier League wicket during GT vs CSK IPL 2023 match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. Chennai Super Kings' Devon Conway became the Gujarat Titans pacer's 100th dismissal.

Shami's milestone came in the third over of the match after Gujarat's captain Hardik Pandya opted to bowl first. Bowling the second ball of the over, the pacer bowled it full and fast to the southpaw, who played a loose drive without much of a front foot movement.

The ball swung in sharply after pitching and went through between Conway's bat and pad to take the middle and off stumps. The in-form Kiwi opener, who started the CSK innings with Ruturaj Gaikwad, could only contribute a run on the day.

Mohammad Shami became the 14th Indian bowler and 19th overall to achieve the feat in IPL. Shami also achieved the unique feat of his 1st, 50th, and 100th wickets in the tournament being a bowled dismissals.

Out of his 100 wickets, 18 were taken for his first franchise Kolkata Knight Riders between 2013-17. 22 of the wickets were taken for Delhi Capitals, including 19 wickets in IPL 2018, in 2018 and 2019. Shmi took 39 wickets for Punjab Kings in 2019 and 2020 and maintained his form for new franchise Gujarat Titans with 20 wickets in IPL 2022.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who plays for Rajasthan Royals, is the highest Indian wicket-taker in IPL with 166 while retired Dwayne Bravo tops the overall list with 183 wickets. At last year's IPL, Delhi Capitals Axar Patel became the 13th Indian to take 100 wickets in the tournament.
