Former cricketer Azharuddin to join Congress?

By Super Admin

Hyderabad, Jan 20: Reports suggest that former cricketer and Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin, may contest for the Lok Sabha polls from Andhra Pradesh on a Congress ticket. It is learnt that Azhar has expressed his desire to contest in elections 'from a prestigious seat.'

Sources say that Azharuddin had recently met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and expressed his desire to contest the upcoming elections. There were speculations that he may either join or campaign for the Telengana Rastra Samiti (TRS) in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls.

However Azhar denied the speculations and said that he was only interested in giving something back to cricket. He is involved in business ventures like running an event management company and setting up a health club.

One of India's most successful cricketers, Azharuddin's innings came to an end after a disciplinary committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposed a life ban on him in December 2000, after a match-fixing raw. Azhar had challenged the ban in a court.
