Mohammed Shami calls reports of his knee injury 'fake news' and 'baseless rumours'

By MyKhel Staff

Mohammed Shami has strongly dismissed the recent speculation surrounding his knee injury, labelling it as "baseless rumours." Reports from various media outlets had suggested that Shami's condition had worsened, potentially sidelining him for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Series, scheduled to commence on November 22.

These concerns gained traction after a report from the Times of India highlighted that the star pacer had developed a swollen knee during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Mohammed Shami blasts Indian media

According to these reports, Shami was likely to miss between six to eight weeks of play, raising alarms about his availability for the crucial series against Australia. However, the experienced bowler took to social media on Wednesday evening to counter these claims. Shami emphasized the importance of not believing in unverified information and urged fans to rely on official statements.

"Why these type of baseless rumours? I'm working hard and trying my level best to recover. Neither the BCCI nor I have mentioned that I am out of the Border-Gavaskar series. I request the public to stop paying attention to such news from unofficial sources. Please stop and don't spread such fake fake fake & fake news, especially without my statement," Shami asserted.

This spirited response from Shami comes after a challenging year, during which he has faced significant injury setbacks. The 33-year-old last donned the Indian jersey during the World Cup 2023 final against Australia, where he played a vital role in the team's performance. Following the tournament, Shami was diagnosed with an Achilles heel injury, which required surgery. Since then, he has been under rigorous rehabilitation, diligently working to regain his fitness.

Eager to make a comeback, Shami has expressed his desire to participate in upcoming Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal. These games will provide him with an excellent opportunity to assess his fitness levels before potentially embarking on the Australian tour. If selected, Shami is expected to play a pivotal role in the Indian pace attack, teaming up with fellow fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

With the Border-Gavaskar Series on the horizon, Shami's return would be a significant boost for the Indian team, especially in a challenging series against a formidable Australian side. His resilience and determination to fight back from injury reflect his commitment to the game and the national team.
