Mohammed Shami showcased his elite class with a magnificent bowling display for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy.
After an absence of nearly a year, Mohammed Shami, the fast bowler from India, has stepped back onto the cricket field. His return was much anticipated following the ICC World Cup 2023 final, after which he was sidelined due to an injury that required surgery. Following a lengthy period of rehabilitation, Shami received the green light to resume playing.

Shami's comeback was marked by his participation in a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh. This match, taking place in Indore, commenced on Wednesday (November 13) and on the first day, Shami bowled ten overs but failed to get a wicket.
Bengal posted 228 runs in their first innings and Madhya Pradesh were 103 for 1 at the end of the first day's play. But Shami roared back to his devastating form and decimated the MP batting on Thursday (November 14).
The Bengal pacer got his first wicket with the Madhya Pradesh captain Shubham Sharma. His vicious delivery castled Sharma's stumps in a crucial juncture of the match. The India pacer then skittled the tail of the Madhya Pradesh innings in his devastating fashion, getting all the final three wickets in the first innings. The hosts got bundled out for 167 runs, ensuring a healthy 61-run lead for Bengal.
Shami ended up with a fantastic figure of 4 for 54 in his return to cricket after a long injury lay-off. Although Shami was largely ineffective in the wickets column on Wednesday, his accuracy and pace were spot on.
The 34-year-old wished to play a couple of Ranji matches to get full fitness ahead of his India availability. Although Shami was not included in India's squad for the Australia series, he looks closer than ever for a return in India colours. Along with that, his excellent bowling display further bolsters his stock ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
