Mohammed Shami, one of India's most experienced pacers, made a triumphant return to international cricket in the third T20I against England at Rajkot's Niranjan Shah Stadium.
The match marked Shami's comeback after 435 days, as he last donned the Indian jersey in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Shami replaced the rested Arshdeep Singh, bringing a wealth of experience to the Indian bowling attack.

The 34-year-old pacer's road to recovery has been arduous. Following ankle surgery after the World Cup, Mohammed Shami faced additional setbacks, including concerns over his left knee. However, his return underlines India's faith in his ability to deliver on the big stage. Shami's inclusion signals India's strategic intent to balance the workload of their bowlers while maintaining depth in the attack.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav, after winning the toss and opting to bowl, announced Shami's inclusion. He praised Rajkot's wicket for its consistent bounce and promised a high-energy performance from the team. "We will bowl first. It looks nice and hard, don't think it will change later. Rajkot has always been a good track; sure it will be a sporting one. Arshdeep is resting, and Shami comes in," said Suryakumar.
India's performance in the series has been stellar so far, with victories in Kolkata and Chennai placing them 2-0 up in the five-match contest. In the first T20I, the team chased down England's target with seven wickets in hand, followed by a thrilling two-wicket win in the second game. Shami's addition is expected to further bolster the Indian bowling lineup as they aim to secure the series in Rajkot.
Meanwhile, England captain Jos Buttler highlighted the importance of a strong total on a good batting track. While their lineup remains unchanged, they face a setback with wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt sidelined due to a calf injury. Jamie Smith takes over the gloves, adding an element of unpredictability to England's side.
