Mohammed Shami may fly to Australia if he meets BCCI conditions, Two Persons to decide his Fate

By MyKhel Staff

Mohammed Shami's potential return to the Indian cricket team could happen soon, following his impressive performance in the Ranji Trophy. The India bowler may get a wildcard entry to the Border Gavaskar Trophy squad and fly to Australia.

Playing for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh, Shami took four wickets at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. This match marked his comeback to competitive cricket since the ODI World Cup final last year.

Shami's bowling was a significant relief for the Indian team management. His performance was not just about taking wickets but also about his consistent bowling approach. He bowled 10 overs without success on Wednesday (Nov 13), but on Day 3, his persistence paid off with four wickets. Shami rattled the Madhya Pradesh team with some excellent steam, and swept away their tail as the hosts got bunded out for just 167 runs, conceding a lead of 61 runs to Bengal.

Amid Shami's excellent performance, the key factor which has encouraged the most is the way the India pacer went about his job. Shami's rhythm looked top-notch as the pacer regularly troubled the MP batters.

Mohammed Shami needs to meet BCCI conditions for India return

A BCCI source mentioned that Shami was asked to play this match as a fitness test since the next Ranji Trophy round starts after the Test season. The selectors had only this game to evaluate him.

Shami's inclusion in the Indian team will be facilitated if his body holds up well after the bowling. The BCCI's Sports Science & Medical Team is keen to see how Shami's body holds up after this match. He underwent ankle surgery after the ODI World Cup final and later developed knee swelling, delaying his return. If he remains pain-free after four days, he might join Jasprit Bumrah before the second Test.

Who will determine Mohammed Shami's fate in the Indian team?

The national selection committee is closely monitoring Shami's fitness and performance. Ajay Ratra from the selection committee and Nitin Patel, head of the NCA Medical Team, are assessing his condition.

Their feedback will be crucial in deciding whether Shami joins the team before the second Test. It will be sent to Rohit Sharma, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir - who will take the final call on the 34-year-old speedster.

If Shami is deemed fit to play for India, he will fly after Bengal's Ranji match against Madhya Pradesh and may join the team ahead of the 2nd Test. The India bowler is also tipped to participate in the 2-day practice match against Prime Minister XI before the 2nd Test in Adelaide, which will be a day-night match.
