Mohammed Shami likely to miss entire Test series against England, IPL participation in jeopardy as well

India's pace star Mohammed Shami is likely to miss the upcoming Test series against England, as per the latest reports.

Mohammed Shami has been out with an ankle injury since the World Cup 2023 Final. The pacer was left out of the South Africa series and subsequently not selected for the first two Test matches against England.

Shami, who had an excellent World Cup with India, was expected to return for the last three Test matches, but new reports suggest the player may miss the entirety of the Test series.

Shami reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and the doctors at NCA have recommended him to see a specialist in London. BCCI's Head of Sports Science Nitin Patel is likely to accompany the Indian pacer in England.

The 33-year-old will visit specialists in the UK, where the course of the treatment will be determined. Likely, the Indian pacer may only get a timeline of his return after assessing his injury status in London.

With this, Shami's participation in the IPL 2024 can also be in jeopardy. The India pacer plays for Gujarat Titans in the IPL, and he may not be available for the first few matches for the Titans.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon, Shami is said to be focusing on that, and that may mean him taking the necessary time to recover from his current injury. The player is said to be batting in the nets, but is yet to be fit enough to withstand the load of bowling.

India will play a five-match Test series against England which starts from January 25. Team India will play the first Test against England in Hyderabad, followed by matches in Vizag, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamshala.
