Mohammed Shami wanted to end his life from 19th Floor Balcony: Friend reveals shocking truth of India pacer

By MyKhel Staff

Mohammed Shami has been a terrific servant of Indian cricket. The pacer has emerged as one of India's top bowlers and was fantastic in the World Cup 2023.

But amid the glamourous life of the cricketers, people often forget the struggles, and dark phases. Although on-field low is a common thing, sometimes a player is ravaged by personal setbacks and off-field issues which take an even bigger role.

Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami had to endure a fair bit of that in his life. Apart from the injuries which derailed his journey, the India pacer had a stormy period with his ex-wife Hasin Jahan. The separation from his daughter was another huge setback, while his wife also lodged complaints against the player for domestic violence and hurled match-fixing allegations at him. Shami spoke about his struggle with mental health, but a friend of his has given a harsh reality on Shami's situation during the troubled phase.

Umesh Kumar, a close friend of Shami, has revealed that the player was emotionally so distressed once and even contemplated ending his life. In a shocking revelation, Shami's friend revealed that the Indian pacer wanted to commit suicide after match-fixing allegations.

"Shami was fighting with everything during that phase. He lived with me in my house. But when the fixing allegations with Pakistan broke, and led to a probe that night, he was shattered. He said that I can tolerate everything but not allegations of betraying my country," Umesh revealed in a podcast with Youtuber Shubhankar Mishra.

"It also came in the news that he wanted to do something drastic that night [end his life]. It was around 4 AM in the morning when I got up to drink water. I was on my way to the kitchen when I saw that he was standing on the balcony. It was the 19th floor we were living in. I understood what happened. That night of Shami's career, I feel, was the longest," he added.

Shami's friend also asserted that the player was the happiest on the day he received clean chit from the fixing allegations, which was perhaps even bigger than winning a World Cup for Shami.

The Indian pacer has been out of action since the 2023 World Cup with an ankle injury. He missed the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup, but much to the relief, the player has returned to training in recent weeks. With Ten Test matches on the horizon, Shami will be aiming to return to the Indian team in the coming assignments.
