Mohammed Siraj scares Daryl Mitchell before dismissing New Zealand batter two deliveries later

By MyKhel Staff

Mohammed Siraj leaked a boundary on Day 3 of the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru, and got a stare from his captain Rohit Sharma before turning up the heat against the Kiwi batters.

The plan for India was to play aggressive cricket and put early pressure on New Zealand, who bundled out the hosts for 46 on Thursday, October 17. In their quest to make a comeback at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, India came with a plan to wrap up New Zealand innings at the earliest.

Siraj answered the call and started a mini battle against New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell. The Hyderabad pacer tried not giving an inch to Mitchell, and also played mind games with him.

On the third ball of the 55th over, Siraj picked up the ball pushed by Mitchell off his bowling and scared the Kiwi batter by threatening to throw the ball at the stumps with him standing in front of it. He also gave a hard stare to Daryl Mitchell.

A couple of deliveries later, Daryl Mitchell decided to cut loose with a cracking back-foot punch. In the process, he got a thick outside edge which flew sharply towards Yashasvi Jasiwal at gully. The youngster pulled off a solid catch to help Siraj pick his maiden wicket in the match, and India's first on Day 3.

The early breakthrough brought the momentum in India's favour as two more New Zealand wickets fell in the first hour. Jasprit Bumrah got rid of Tom Blundell, while Ravindra Jadeja cleaned the stumps of Glenn Phillips. However, New Zealand's lead had gone past 170 at the time this story was published.
