Moles tells Kiwi batters to learn how to draw a test

Wellington, Apr.6 (ANI): Staring down the barrel of a 600-plus run chase in the third test against India, New Zealand coach Andy Moles has asked his batsmen to concentrate on saving the test on a playable pitch rather than trying to be heroes and win it.

The world record chase is 418-7 by the West Indies against Australia in Antigua in 2003 and New Zealand's best is 324-5 against Pakistan in Christchurch in 1994.

"One of the things I've spoken to the guys about right from when we first started against the West Indies is that we have to recognize there is times when you've got to learn how to draw test matches," the Dominion Post quoted Moles, as saying.

"Should we get into a position where we can get into the last day with six-seven wickets left in a position to chase down a large score then we'll do it, but it's all about getting into that last day with lots of wickets in hand," he added.

Moles admitted it was frustrating to see India's lower order cash in against short-pitched bowling late on day one and then have Zaheer Khan run through his side for 197 on day two. (ANI)
